About Event
Join the TAD group on Zoom as we read and discuss our next book, Late Migrations: A Natural History of Love and Loss by Margaret Renkl. A New York Times contributing opinion writer, Renkl has written an unusual, captivating portrait of a family—and of the cycles of joy and grief that inscribe human lives within the natural world. This book feels peaceful, calm, and is beautifully illustrated by the author’s brother.
In brief essays, Renkl traces a tender and honest portrait of her unforgettable parents and of the bittersweet moments that accompany a child’s transition to caregiver. Braided into the overall narrative, she also offers observations on the world surrounding her suburban Nashville home. Ringing with rapture and heartache, these essays convey the dignity of bluebirds and rat snakes, monarch butterflies and native bees. As the two threads haunt and harmonize with each other, Renkl suggests that there is astonishment to be found in common things: in what seems ordinary, in what we all share.
TAD will read and discuss the book in 3 sessions, starting November 19th. Join in at 1:45 PM for fellowship, or 2 PM for book discussion.
We’d love to have you join us for one or all of the discussions.
