Ifyou will be with us in person, please note that our Covid Team has made anadjustment in our Covid protocols. Ourscriptures are Psalm 27 (The Lord is my light… should I fear anyone?) and Luke10:1-11 when Jesus sends 72 people out in pairs to places near and far. Theyare sent with a message of the nearness of God. Jesus also tells them what todo if they aren’t well received.
Wewill celebrate the sacrament of communion at our Open Table – ALL are invited,no exceptions.
It’s a Give-A-MealSunday so please consider bringing gifts of non-perishable food and/or personalcare items for Circle of Concern in Valley Park (circleofconcern.org). Tuesday Afternoon Dialogue
July 5, 2022 2:00pm - 3:15pm
Beginning Tuesday,June 7th, TAD will discuss the first half of the novel The Mammy."Mammy" is what Irish children call their mothers, and The Mammy isAgnes Browne—a widow struggling to raise seven children in a North Dublinneighborhood in the 1960s. We'll read about poverty from a differentperspective, in a different country and era from our last book.
General background...We'll finish Invisible Child on Tuesday, May 17th. Next we'll read The Mammy in June in two sessions. Then I plan for TAD to take off July and at least part of August unless one of my compadres wants to facilitate summer reading.

July 12, 2022 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Heritage Room [11]
MasWe will share apotluck supper at six, begin discussion of the book at seven. Our goal will beto read and share responses to the first two sections of BRAIDING SWEETGRASS byRobin Wells Kimmerer: "Planting Sweetgrass" and "Tending Sweetgrass."Our author is a botanist and a member of the Potawatomi Nation. We look forwardto contemplating ancient wisdom and contemporary concern about caring for God'screation. Please join us. (We ask that you use the Harper entry at the back ofthe building to avoid disturbing rehearsal of the children's choir.) Masks are recommended.
|
We will begin discussion of BRAIDING SWEETGRASS by RobinWall Kimmerer. A logical goal would be to complete the first two sections,Planting Sweetgrass and Tending Sweetgrass, pages 3 to 117. It will not, however, be necessary to finishboth of these sections to participate in the conversation.
There are 3 more sections: Picking Sweetgrass (121-201),Braiding Sweetgrass (205-300), and Burning Sweetgrass and Epilogue(303-384). Wecan discuss how to schedule next sessions’ reading when we are together.

Parkway Inquirers (new parishioners)
July 19, 2022 6:30pm - 7:45pm
Heritage Room [11]
Inquirer: someone who wants to know more … about Parkway UCC
The next PARKWAY UCC Inquirers’ Gathering will be on Tuesday, July 19 from 6:30-7:45pm in the Heritage Room
Our goals that evening include: * getting to know one another a bit more * discussing some key issues of faith * describing Parkway’s worship, outreach, education, leadership, fellowship * taking a look at our denomination, the United Church of Christ * sharing ideas about the exciting future of Parkway UCC * soliciting your thoughts on how we can be a more welcoming and inviting community of faith * answering any of your questions
You will find our time together meaningful and informative!
Some churches call this sort of gathering a New Members Class – we do not. While we do know that there are a number of you who have expressed interest in becoming members of the church, we do not assume that Inquirers are seeking membership. We just want to be hospitable, get to know you and have the chance to express gratitude for your presence among us. [Free Childcare is provided that evening if requested by Sunday morning, July 17]

July 22, 2022 6:30pm - July 23, 2022 9:00am
Join us out back at church for Fun, Film and Optional Campout! We will gather anytime after 6:30pm on the playground. We will have a fire and smores. We will show a family friendly film when it gets dark... yes, we will have the popcorn machine popping! Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets.
Some of us will pitch our tents and stay the night -- continental breakfast provided. The back playground is a perfect place to camp... close to home and great bathrooms. This is a great opportunity for inexperienced or rusty campers.
If you would need to borrow a tent, please let us know. (If you have a tent to lend, please let us know!)
Rain date is the following Friday, July 29.

July 24, 2022 10:00am - 11:00am
Description:
Worship with us at 10am on IN PERSON or Facebook Live or on YouTube by early afternoon.
Our church family is constantly changing. People come and go. Babies are born. Children grow up. People commit themselves to one another. Loved ones and friends among us come to the end of their lives. Individuals move into our community and church life. Others leave us, moving away to new places, new experiences, new opportunities. It is with joy and gratitude that we will welcome new members into our worship, work and witness on Sunday, October 10 during our 10am In-Person and Facebook Live worship service. If you are interested, please contact kevin@parkwayucc.org; 314-872-9330.

Helen Race is inviting you
I look forward to seeing many of you Tuesday evening withpotluck at six p.m. and book talk at seven. Please remember to come in via theHarper entry in the back to avoid disturbing the children’s choir rehearsal.
We will continue discussion of BRAIDING SWEETGRASS byRobin Wall Kimmerer. Our goal is to complete the third section, PickingSweetgrass, 121 to 201. It will not, however, be necessary to finish all ofthis section to participate in the conversation.
There are 2 more sections: Braiding Sweetgrass (205-300) for June 14 andBurning Sweetgrass and Epilogue(303-384) for June 28. We may want to take abreak once we complete this book. I expect Helen will be finished with herquilting class by then and hope she will be rejoining us to resume guiding ourprogress.
Time: Jan 26, 2021 07:00 PM CentralTime (US and Canada)
Any questions please call Helen Race (314) 401-4382
