Worship Service and Sunday School
April 2, 2023 10:00am - 11:00am
Description:
April 2, 2023
10:00am In-person and Facebook Live or replay on Facebook later
It’s Palm Sunday! Jesus and the disciples enter Jerusalem. Why the excitement? Why the stir? Why the fear? Our Psalm captures the joy (Psalm 118;1-2, 19-29) and our Gospel lesson tells how Jesus arrived (Mark 11:1-11). We will ponder what to do next.
We will light our 6th Lenten candle and wave our palms as we place them in the cross.
Our 2nd Mile Lent mission partners are Lydia’ House; Unleashing Potential; Heifer International; and Eden Seminary. PUCCer Kari Borgmann will tell us more about her personal call and experience at Eden Seminary this week.
Please to be with us again later in Holy Week and on Easter morning – see schedule below.
Please participate in worship virtually via our livestream on Facebook if that is convenient for you and/or if you have tested positive for Covid in the last 5 days. Masks should be worn and respected for in-person worship if you have tested positive for COVID 6-10 days ago and you still have symptoms; you are in a high-risk group and/or have underlying conditions; you are more comfortable wearing a mask.... In order to protect individuals and the wider community, we strongly encourage up-to-date vaccinations and boosters against all communicable diseases.

1st Sunday Choir This Sunday (4/2)—Extra Singers Needed!
Next Sunday—April 2— is both the 1st Sunday and Palm Sunday! 1st Sunday Choir is singing, and we need extra singers to help. No extra rehearsals, just be in the church Sanctuary next Sunday morning at 9:00am to learn 2 (easy) songs, and then stay to sing during our Palm Sunday service at 10:00am. No reservations required, AND you get reserved box seating for the service (in the choir loft)! Come join the fun singing on Palm Sunday, next Sunday starting at 9:00am…see you then!
Give-a-Meal Sunday
Every First Sunday of the month is Give-a-Meal Sunday. Thanks to our congregants for on-going support to the food pantries. While shopping for food, consider these food items that clients would especially like to choose from community donation tables: canned ravioli with meat, sardines, canned greens, beef stew, canned chicken, rice, and chili. Thanks in advance. Contact Evelyn Buretta: burettaevelyn@gmail.com | (636) 220-1280

Tuesday Afternoon Dialogue
Tuesday Afternoon Dialogue
April 4, 2023 2:00pm - 3:15pm
"In Have aLittle Faith, Mitch Albom offers a beautifully written story of a remarkableeight-year journey between two worlds - two men, two faiths, two communities,Have a Little Faith begins with an unusual request: an eighty-two-year-oldrabbi from Albom's old hometown asks him to deliver his eulogy. Feelingunworthy, Albom insists on understanding the man better, which throws him backinto a world of faith he'd left years ago. Meanwhile, closer to his currenthome, Albom becomes involved with a Detroit pastor -- a reformed drug dealerand convict -- who preaches to the poor and homeless in a decaying church witha hole in its roof. Have a Little Faith is a book about a life's purpose; aboutlosing belief and finding it again; about the divine spark inside us all."Review from Amazon

Ineeded to submit the TED blurb for the PUCC bulletin and since I haven’t heardabout any other book choices or votes from anyone else, I made the autocraticdecision to go with the book that Jackie selected . Several of you thought itsounded like a good read and I agree too. It’s called Ordinary Grace byWilliam Kent Krueger. 336 pages . It’s available at the library or in paperback. Amazon about $10.00.
Let’sread the first 150 pages for August 9.
Hopeyou have an enjoyable month off. Have fun and stay cool. Actually you arealready awesomely cool since you are in TED.
We will share apotluck supper at six, begin discussion of the book at seven. Our goal will beto read and share responses to the first two sections of BRAIDING SWEETGRASS byRobin Wells Kimmerer: "Planting Sweetgrass" and "Tending Sweetgrass."Our author is a botanist and a member of the Potawatomi Nation. We look forwardto contemplating ancient wisdom and contemporary concern about caring for God'screation. Please join us. (We ask that you use the Harper entry at the back ofthe building to avoid disturbing rehearsal of the children's choir.) Masks are recommended.
|
TED is on summerbreak until August 9. Even though we are not meeting until then you are welcometo join us as we read for our summer book selection entitled Ordinary Grace byWilliam Kent Krueger. It's a story about a boy, a small town and a murder inthe summer of 1961. It has been described as an unforgettable novel aboutdiscovering the terrible price of wisdom and the enduring grace of God.
Please read the first 150 pages for our next TED gathering and potluck on Aug9.

Adventures in Cuba; Lifting the Veil; What We Saw and Learned.
April 16, 2023 11:15am - 12:15pm
SPECIAL SPEAKERS Gerry and Mike Rogers, Sue Moellering, PamManning, and Judy Connolley..
Cuba is home to over 11 million people and is the most populous island nation in the Caribbean. Its culture, and customs draw from diverse sources, such as the aboriginal, Taíno and Oboney peoples, the period of Spanish colonialism, the introduction of African slaves, and its proximity to the United States.
Online research and other resources will tell you that every American can now travel Cuba and enjoy cultural, artistic, and educational activities – just like touring any other country. But how accurate is that? Find out first-hand from several Parkway and Peace church members and their entourage that traveled to Cuba, including Gerry and Mike Rogers, Sue Moellering, Pam Manning, and Judy Connolley.
Its more than a travel log.
Our speakers will present live in the HeritageRoom, following worship service. Others may join by zoom conferencing, usingthe customary links and passwords.

We will continue discussion of BRAIDING SWEETGRASS byRobin Wall Kimmerer. Our goal is to complete the third section, PickingSweetgrass, 121 to 201. It will not, however, be necessary to finish all ofthis section to participate in the conversation.
There are 2 more sections: Braiding Sweetgrass (205-300) for June 14 andBurning Sweetgrass and Epilogue(303-384) for June 28. We may want to take abreak once we complete this book.
