CREATION CARE IN ACTION (GREEN TIPS) April 2019
Flowering Dogwoods Soon Available
April 22nd marks the 48th Earth Day, an event celebrated around the world. Planting a tree is an excellent way to care for God’s creation – trees give off oxygen, reduce storm water runoff, provide wildlife habitat, while adding beauty to our homes.
This spring a PUCC member has anonymously donated 40 Flowering Dogwood seedlings to be given away on a first come/first serve basis to those members interested. Flowering Dogwoods, our Missouri State tree, grow best in a shady location and require supplemental water during summer and fall, especially during hot, dry spells. Regular watering once a week to a depth of 6 inches should suffice and adding a generous layer of mulch will help retain moisture, minimizing watering chores.

The Arbor Day Society will deliver the plants sometime between April 1 and May 4th. There is a poster sign-up in the Gathering Space. You are not obligated, but we need to know that these trees receive a caring home. Please sign up if you’re interested and call Polly Rutherford if you have any questions.
If you missed the last Electronic recycling/paper shredding opportunity, the next date is April 13th – 9:00-11:00 at 111 Chesterfield Towne Centre, Chesterfield, 63005. The sponsor is Coldwell Banker Gundaker, Chesterfield West.
Chesterfield Earth Day will be held May 4th at Chesterfield Mall – In addition to recycling, there will be crafts, booths and entertainment. Stay tuned for more information.
