TAD’s Next Book is The Reading List, a novel by Sara Nisha Adams
Event Date: 04/16/2024
Please join TAD as we start our next book, The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams. Loneliness, finding community, and the benefits of reading are some of the themes addressed in this book. We’ll be reading and discussing this book in thirds from 2 pm to 3pm, April 16th, May 7th, and May 21st.
Aleisha is a bright but anxious teenager working at the local library for the summer when she discovers a crumpled-up piece of paper in the back of To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s a list of novels that she’s never heard of before. Intrigued, and a little bored with her slow job at the checkout desk, she impulsively decides to read every book on the list, one after the other. As each story gives up its magic, the books transport Aleisha from the painful realities she’s facing at home. She meets an elderly gentleman grieving the loss of his wife, and at the same time desperate to make a connection with his granddaughter. Aleisha shares the list with the gentleman. Slowly, the shared books create a connection between the two and help them escape their grief and everyday troubles and find joy again (from Goodreads).
