Parkway Adventurers to Magic Chef Mansion

Tour the Magic Chef Mansion (3400 Russell Blvd.) near Tower Grove Park on Thursday, December 7th. The tour will last an hour and fifteen minutes. We’ll meet at church by 9:15 a.m. to carpool, or meet at the mansion by 10 a.m. There is a $20 per person fee (15 person minimum) for the tour, with the money to be paid the day of the tour. Please wear only flat-soled shoes, as no small-tipped heels are permitted. Please RSVP to Kent Tallyn (cell 314-303-5606) or Diane Tallyn (cell 314-910-2032) no later than Thursday, November 30th. The Magic Chef Mansion was built in one year for Charles Stockstrom, the founder of the Quick Meal Stove Company, later renamed Magic Chef, in 1908. The largest stove maker in the world at one time, Magic Chef employed 2000 people in its St. Louis plant. After Stockstrom’s death in 1935, his daughter Adda Ohmeyer lived in the mansion until her death in 1990. The furniture and fixtures were sold at auction, and in late 1990 the current owner purchased the home and began restoration. She purchased back any original items that she could locate , as well as refurnished the mansion to its original elegance. It includes original lighting fixtures and period furnishings. We will see uncovered original murals in the parlor, an original and operating Magic Chef oven in the kitchen, and a bowling alley in the basement. The mansion will be decorated for Christmas.
