Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:31
When I think about Jesus’ hands, a few passages come to mind – including these two from the Gospel of John.
One tells the story of a blind man. Jesus helps him by making some elixir with his hands and putting it on the eyes of the blind man. He is healed…. John 9:6-11
What can you make with your hands that will bless someone and set them free? You have such amazing potential!
The other story has to do with a woman who is being judged for her checkered past. Jesus helps those standing in judgement see that they also have made mistakes in their lives by writing/drawing something in the dirt before them…. John 8:2-11
What can you draw or write with your hands, creativity and compassion that will be a mirror for others and will build community?
During the war a church in Strasburg, Germany, was totally destroyed; but a statue of Christ which stood by the altar was almost unharmed. Only the hands of the statue were missing. When the church was rebuilt, a famous sculptor offered to make new hands; but, after considering the matter, the members decided to let it stand as it was-without hands. “For,” they said, “Christ has no hands but our hands to do His work on earth. If we don’t feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, entertain the stranger, visit the imprisoned, and clothe the naked, who will?” Christ is depending on us to do the very things which He did while upon earth. My friend, if the gospel we preach does not have a social application, if it will not work effectively in the work-a-day world, then it is not the Gospel of Christ. – Billy Graham
[We have shared a similar piece from Teresa of Avila previously – Christ Has No Hands  https://www.journeywithjesus.net/PoemsAndPrayers/Teresa_Of_Avila_Christ_Has_No_Body.shtml ]
Prayer: Holy One, use my hands as yours. Amen.
