January 2016 Worship Notes

Jan 3 | 9:30 & 11:00am | Epiphany | Communion | Give-a-Meal
Scripture: Isaiah 60:1-6; Matthew 2:1-23
Message: Walk in the Light
Theme: The wise men follow the star to the Christ Child. The Wise Ones are warned in a dream to go home by a different road. An angel comes to the Holy family and tells them to flee to Egypt in fear of Herod’s wrath. How do we decide where to go and when? What if we don’t have a choice? Mary & Joseph and Jesus are refugees fleeing their home. What does this mean for our faith and practices?

Jan 10 | 9:30am & 11:00am
Scripture: Isaiah 43:1-7; Matthew 3:11-17
Message: Water, River, Spirit, Grace
Theme: Reassurance upon reassurance in the readings. Jesus baptized by John—even though John didn’t feel worthy. The Spirit of God descends and brings grace.

Jan 17| 9:30am & 11:00am
Scripture: Isaiah 62:1-5; 1Corinthians 12:1-11
Message: Overlap
Theme: Spiritual gifts—we all have them…how to discern? What to do with them and how to grow them in self and others. How the Spirit builds community as gifts overlap—common spaces.

Jan 24| 4:30pm & 7:30pm
Scripture: Psalm 19; Luke 4:14-21
Message: Extensions of the Spirit
