From Lovers to Fools

How do we go from Lovers to Fools…and why would we want to do that?

On Ash Wednesday/Valentine’s Day we are swept up in the idea that God loves us and we love God…which brings us to love one another.

Then we live this love for others and it gets really hard to do.

Jesus says, “The first will be last and the last will be first.” That makes no sense.

Jesus tells the story about the father and the son who wasted the father’s money…The father throws the lost son a huge party when he comes back!? Really?

Jesus talks about forgiving 70 times 7? I cannot even count that high—never mind forgive that often.

Am I really supposed to invite street people to a feast I pay for and provide?

And what is this advice to leave my 99 sheep and going after the 1 who was lost? WHAT?!

God’s love is difficult and may even seem foolish at times but we’re called to that nonetheless. Let’s bring our whole selves to this work during Lent and beyond Easter and April Fools’ Day.
