February 2016 Worship Notes

Feb 7 | 10:00am | Transfiguration Sunday | Communion | Give-a-Meal
Scripture: Exodus 34:29-35; Luke 9:28-36
Message: Something to Look At!
Theme: Transfiguration

Feb 10 | 7:00pm | Ash Wednesday
Scripture: Joel 2, selected verses, Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21
Message: A List for Lent
Theme: Jesus talks about some faith practices. We have made a list for this Lent and will be intentional about this time and space that has been carved out for us. Our attention will be on Scripture:, our own experience, Jesus’s story as well as the history and now of our congregation and denomination … courage, vulnerability, patience, flexibility, receptivity, advocacy and generosity.

Feb 14 | 9:30am & 11:00am | Lent 1
Scripture: Psalm 91:1-2, 9-16; Luke 4:1-13
Message: Courage for Lent
Theme: Jesus is tempted in the wilderness. We must have courage and self-determination to stay sturdy and focused. It’s important to know what we are up against and struggling with on regular basis. God’s presence gives us courage in the midst of every challenge/opportunity.

Feb 21 | 9:30am & 11:00am |Lent 2
Scripture: Psalm 27
Message: Vulnerability for Lent
Theme: The Psalmist acknowledges some of the realities of life then/now. If we are honest, we are vulnerable to a great many things—and being being vulnerable and honest before the Holy will fill us with what we need to thrive. We place ourselves in God’s care because we trust.

Feb 28 | 4:30pm & 7:30pm | Lent 3
Scripture: Isaiah 55:1-9; Luke 13:6-9
Message: Patience for Lent
Theme: Jesus tells the story of a fig tree that has not produced fruit for three years. Should they cut it down or fertilize it and wait one more year? We have a God of many chances. How do we wait for God and how do we live patiently for one another?
