About Event
HERITAGE ROOM
There are currently over 12,000 children in foster care in the state of Missouri with over 5,000 in the St. Louis area alone. Being torn away from family and home is one of the most traumatic events a child can experience. CASA volunteers are trained Court Appointed Special Advocates who work directly with a child in their foster care placement and serve as a consistent and supportive adult during the child’s time in foster care. CASAs also work together with case workers and the Court as they advocate for services and resources all in the best interest of the child. Case workers and placements can change over time but the child’s CASA remains the same steady person the child can count on to be there for them. Parkway member Helen Race has been a CASA for over 5 years and has found it to be an extremely impactful and meaningful experience. Come and learn about the CASA program and how it provides an important connection to children who are experiencing perhaps the hardest times in their lives. It is a rewarding and challenging role for anyone who seeks to make a positive difference, one child at a time. Questions? Talk to Richard Scherrer
