Want to do something tangible for the people of Ferguson? We have reached out to our UCC family in an effort to help them extend the love of Christ. Our UCC Parish Nurse Network is preparing to serve in a variety of ways. Back in the summer and early fall when there was such tumult, the nurses went in and helped people get their medicine and take care of other medical needs. They are poised to help again. They have asked for $5 gift cards to Schnucks and/or Walgreens. These are two stores that are located in an area that was protected last time and the prayer is that this will be so again – should things erupt. The nurses also gave out, and would need a stockpile, of Ensure, Boost and Glucerna.
We also connected with St Peter”s UCC in Ferguson to find out how we could be with them in all of this …
Check out this response based on an email from one of their pastors, Josh Privitt:
Thanks so much for getting in touch. It is always good to hear that other churches are still thinking and praying for us and the broader Ferguson community.
First of all, the support of the Safe Sanctuary Spaces (see below re: Mt Carmel across from Christ the King UCC) is a HUGE way to be supportive. Outside of that, I think one of the biggest ways people can be helpful and supportive is just being present. St. Peter”s, among many others, will be open during the day and into the evening the day the grand jury comes back for prayer, pastoral care, meditation, etc. We would love to have anyone who is comfortable to join us. Also, just encouraging cards, messages like yours are always good as well.
Besides these things, I suggest one more thing — supporting Ferguson Burger Bar and More (9120 W Florissant Ave, St Louis, MO 63136). They are a wonderful business owned by an African-American couple who are truly committed to supporting and lifting up the whole community in the ways they can as small business owners. Just great people.
Thirdly, we reached out to Christ the King UCC in Florissant. They suggest we help the good people of Trinity Mt Carmel Baptist Church at 11755 Mehl Ave, Florissant, MO 63033 (314) 837-7878 Mt Carmel (which is located right across the street from Christ the King) as they are a Safe Sanctuary beginning right after the Grand Jury announcement comes – read more about that mission and their needs here — prayingwithourfeet.org … a list of items they need to be effective can be found on this website.
We are committed to getting any gifts you bring to the right places, so please read through these suggestions above and bring your contribution to PUCC on Sunday.
