Sunday, October 27 | After church | Sean Watkins Trailer
Sean Watkins and his new family now have a trailer that is livable, but still needs lots of work. We are planning a work day on Sunday, Oct 27 after Church. If you are willing to lend a hand, and for more information, please contact Mike Rogers at firstname.lastname@example.org, or phone 314 434 7122.
All ages—all (or no) singing abilities invited! Please mark your calendar for Saturday, December 7 and/or Saturday, December 21. We will be visiting special friends of Parkway to usher in the season with songs and fellowship. This is a wonderful way to get in the Christmas spirit, for both the singers, and recipients of these gifts. Please join us for one or both of these days. Meet at church at 9:00am. We are usually finished by 11:30am. Questions? Contact us.
This Sunday, October 13, we will dedicate our Offering of Letters that were written last Sunday morning. It’s not too late to raise your voice in support of hungry children and adults. Click here to access a letter to print out and sign. Bring the letters in an envelope and place in the basket in the Gathering Space. Thank you.
Bring your bags of individually wrapped candy by 10/13 to send in care packages to our Parkway collegians. If you can help get the packages ready for mailing the morning of Mon, Oct 14, contact us.
Chimes Choir & Orchestra
Parkway United Church of Christ started on September 15 two new multi-generational musical groups which are open to persons having no affiliation with the church as well as church members and regular attenders. Both groups rehearse at the church once a month on third Sunday evenings and are composed of a chimes choir (which plays hand bells music) rehearsing from 6:30 to 7:10 P.M. and a small orchestra rehearsing from 7:20 to 8:00pm. A person can play in either one of the groups or in both groups. We had five persons at the initial chimes rehearsal and we need several more players to fully cover the music. Previous experience with hand bells or hand chimes is not necessary, because the parts are easy to learn if one can read music. We had eight persons playing in the small orchestra, and we could use many more players. Strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion are all welcome. Both groups will be rehearsing Christmas music at the next rehearsals, which will be on October 20. The rehearsals following October 20 will be on November 17. Each group will play one or two concerts in December. Please call Roger Fagerberg, the volunteer director for both groups, 314-878-7646, if you have any questions.
We are talking about the Fall Friendship Dinners of course! As the leaves turn brilliant colors and you feel a nip in the air, we invite you to spend a cozy evening with friends enjoying tasty, homemade dishes.
Consider hosting – you choose the time and how many people you would like to invite.
If you would rather be a guest….just sign your name and number of people attending.
Each person prepares only one dish.
So as the days grow cooler and more colorful, sign up for a casual dinner, or even a brunch with new and old friends. The gatherings are all about Friendship and being together.

Glorifying God through Music
In my capacity as organist and choir director it is my privilege to provide music for the 9:30 worship service. I prepare and perform organ music and also accompany many of our talented members, both youth and adults, who sing or play instruments. I also direct the adult choir, which rehearses on Wednesday evenings and performs music in a variety of styles—selections from the classical choral repertory, music from the Taizé and Iona communities, as well as folk music of many different cultures. The choir is a warm and welcoming group, and we always invite new members to join us. Child care is provided on Wednesday evenings and on Sunday mornings during our pre-service warm-up. We extend a special invitation to both members and non-members who are not able to sing on a regular basis to join us for special music at Christmas and Easter.
In addition to my work with choir and instrumentalists, much of my time is spent in worship planning—working with Pastor Kevin to select hymns, anthems, and other music to fit the worship theme and lectionary texts.
Youth in Middle School and High School have the opportunity to sing with Voices of Grace, ably led by Cynthia Bowermaster and Stephanie Polster, which rehearses on Sunday mornings from 10:45-11:30, and sings approximately once a month at either the 9:30 or 11:00 service.
This fall our member Roger Fagerberg has begun two new instrumental groups—an orchestra and a chimes choir—which rehearse once a month on Sunday evenings.
There are many opportunities to glorify God through music at Parkway, and we warmly invite all with musical interests and abilities, both youth and adults, to participate. Please contact Barbara Raedeke at email@example.com if you have an interest in the adult choir or in playing an instrument for worship. Those interested in singing with Voices of Grace may contact Cynthia Bowermaster, firstname.lastname@example.org , or Stephanie Polster, email@example.com. Anyone interested in participating in the chimes choir or orchestra may contact Roger Fagerberg, firstname.lastname@example.org.
