Ferguson Response

FERGUSON_RESPONSE_640Want to do something tangible for the people of Ferguson? We have reached out to our UCC family in an effort to help them extend the love of Christ. Our UCC Parish Nurse Network is preparing to serve in a variety of ways. Back in the summer and early fall when there was such tumult, the nurses went in and helped people get their medicine and take care of other medical needs. They are poised to help again. They have asked for $5 gift cards to Schnucks and/or Walgreens. These are two stores that are located in an area that was protected last time and the prayer is that this will be so again – should things erupt. The nurses also gave out, and would need a stockpile, of Ensure, Boost and Glucerna.

We also connected with St Peter”s UCC in Ferguson to find out how we could be with them in all of this …

Check out this response based on an email from one of their pastors, Josh Privitt:

Thanks so much for getting in touch. It is always good to hear that other churches are still thinking and praying for us and the broader Ferguson community.

First of all, the support of the Safe Sanctuary Spaces (see below re: Mt Carmel across from Christ the King UCC) is a HUGE way to be supportive. Outside of that, I think one of the biggest ways people can be helpful and supportive is just being present. St. Peter”s, among many others, will be open during the day and into the evening the day the grand jury comes back for prayer, pastoral care, meditation, etc. We would love to have anyone who is comfortable to join us. Also, just encouraging cards, messages like yours are always good as well.

Besides these things, I suggest one more thing — supporting Ferguson Burger Bar and More (9120 W Florissant Ave, St Louis, MO 63136). They are a wonderful business owned by an African-American couple who are truly committed to supporting and lifting up the whole community in the ways they can as small business owners. Just great people.

Thirdly, we reached out to Christ the King UCC in Florissant. They suggest we help the good people of Trinity Mt Carmel Baptist Church at 11755 Mehl Ave, Florissant, MO 63033 (314) 837-7878 Mt Carmel (which is located right across the street from Christ the King) as they are a Safe Sanctuary beginning right after the Grand Jury announcement comes – read more about that mission and their needs here — prayingwithourfeet.org … a list of items they need to be effective can be found on this website.

We are committed to getting any gifts you bring to the right places, so please read through these suggestions above and bring your contribution to PUCC on Sunday.

We need, for our traditional worship services, an usher team leader and an assistant team leader for designated Sundays of each month, a Head Usher to work with the four team leaders, and many persons willing to serve as ushers to augment our many faithful ushers. Please contact me if you are willing to serve in any of these usher leader positions. Please let me know if you are willing to serve as an usher, either on a regular monthly basis or occasionally when needed, and are not already serving as an usher team leader or regular usher not willing to be an usher leader. Join the Parkway UCC CROP Hunger Walk Team

Sun, Oct 12 | 12:30pm Registration | 1:30pm Walk | Eden Seminary

Be a part of the phenomena! Fight hunger! Last year we had a large team of walkers and raised over $1500 as a team. That means that we raised enough money to provide 4,000lbs of food for our local food pantries AND enough money to provide food packets for 10 displaced families to feed them for 5 months. Great job Parkway UCC! Let’s keep up the great work in the fight against hunger both here in our community and around the world.

You can walk and/or support our walkers by:

  1. Look for me, Stephanie DeLong, at church on Sunday morning. I can give you a walker envelope or sign you up as a sponsor.
  2. Email Stephanie DeLong at greenwagonmom@gmail.com.
  3. Telephone Stephanie DeLong at 636-236-7907.
  4. Go to this link to join the Parkway UCC CROP Walk Team and/or sponsor a walker: http://hunger.cwsglobal.org/site/TR/2014FallCROPHungerWalk/TR-Fall2014?team_id=112480&pg=team&fr_id=19114

Choir Call Fall 2014

abstract_choirChoir Call
Every year in September when the choir returns to our 9:30 service, I invariably hear many people say how great it is to have them back. I agree! I miss them over the summer, and I think everyone else does too. They provide a very important ministry as they sing hymns and anthems which enrich our understanding of the Scriptures and move us as only music can.

Have you ever thought about joining our ranks? If you enjoy singing, we would love to have you sing with us. The choir is a warm and welcoming group—we work hard, have fun, and enjoy making music together. Our rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 p.m., and we sing for the 9:30 worship service on Sundays, with a warm up at 8:45. Child care is provided on Wednesday evenings and before the service on Sundays. This fall our rehearsals begin on Wednesday, August 27, and we will sing for the 9:30 worship services beginning on Sunday, September 7. We very much need additional singers! If you would like to join us, please contact Barbara Raedeke at BRaedeke@aol.com, or just come to the first rehearsal on August 27. You will be most welcome!
