Our UCC-Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

PUCCer Gayle Engel, recently retired Conference Minister of our Missouri Mid-South Conference of our United Church of Christ, will share a bit of UCC history but will mostly focus on what is happening in our amazing denomination today and what the future may bring. Gayle has a pulse on the church as he just finished a stint as the acting conference minister next door in the Illinois South Conference, is an active UCC consultant and works on an exciting long-term leadership project with young UCC clergy. Bring your questions and faith imagination.

Joke

A kindergarten teacher was walking around observing her classroom of children while they were drawing pictures. As she got to one girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.

The girl replied, “I’m drawing God.”

The teacher paused and said, “But no one knows what God looks like.”

Without looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, “They will in a minute.”

Quote

Watch your thoughts, they become words.

Watch your words; they become actions.

Watch your actions; they become habits.

Watch your habits; they become character.

Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Joke of the Week

One Sunday, a young child was “acting up” during the morning worship hour. The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing the battle. Finally, the father picked the little fellow up and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out. Just before reaching the safety of the foyer, the little one called loudly to the congregation, “Pray for me! Pray for me!”

Quote

Lord, when we think of the “church,” we think of our own building, our own friends, those who worship with us now. Lord, when you see the church, you see Christians in every century, your people spread throughout the world, stretching through time. Lord, help us to see how great the church is; and to be glad that we belong to your family. ~Unknown

Jesus said, “Look at the birds of the air…” -Matthew 6:26. PUCCer Linda Tossing shares one of her passions with us. The World Bird Sanctuary, less than 15 minutes from here, is both a unique St. Louis attraction and entertaining environmental education opportunity. With over 305 acres and over 200 animals in our care, we offer a one-of-a-kind wildlife experience. The World Bird Sanctuary’s mission is to preserve the earth’s biological diversity and to secure the future of threatened bird species in their natural environments. We work to fulfill that mission through education, captive breeding, field studies and rehabilitation. Linda will bring a bird friend!

Joke of the Week

A pastor asked a little boy if he said his prayers every night.

“Yes, sir.” the boy replied.

“And, do you always say them in the morning, too?” the pastor asked.

“No sir,” the boy replied. “I’m not scared in the daytime.”
