Serve at Parkway

You can start volunteering today! The Parkway faith family is a service and volunteer oriented community. We jump at the chance to serve others and want to include you in that excitement. You can share your time and talent with any of our ongoing ministries.

Service is integral to our congregational vitality. Whether it is serving each other or those in the local or global community, Parkway offers many ways to get involved in the community beyond the Sunday morning worship service.

Church Orchestra Rehearsal 3rd Sundays

parkwayorchestra1Third Sunday of the month | 6:30-8:00pm | Choir Room

The Parkway Church Orchestra continues with its third Sunday monthly rehearsals. Concerts are normally in August and December. We are seeking more instrumentalists (strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion) to join us. We will meet in the Choir Room. Holy Week 2017

Palm Sunday: April 9 | 9:30 & 11:00am
Feel the excitement as Jesus comes into Jerusalem. Wave your palm, listen to scripture that sets the scene for the week, receive the sacrament of communion at our open table. As Jesus enters in, how will we welcome and spend time with him this Holy Week—so that we can become more like him?

Maundy Thursday Service: April 13 | 7:00pm
Join us in the Gathering Space for a simple soup supper as we hear about the Passover that Jesus and the disciples were in the city to celebrate. We will ask God to let some of this Holy Week pass us by. Gather at our open table to receive the incredible gift of communion—which will sustain us in these next days of challenge.

Good Friday Prayers: April 14 | noon | Historic Sanctuary
Enter into the heaviness on this day of trial, tribulation, crucifixion. The organ will play and we will observe some silence. We will hear scripture and poetry and reflect on this last day.

Good Friday Service: April 14 | 7:00pm | New Sanctuary
Absorbing Even This! We will imagine the unthinkable and come out on the other side. On the darkest night, we will remind ourselves of the depths of God’s love for us. The Choir and Voices of Grace will sing and we will be aware of light and shadow tonight.

Easter Prayer Vigil: April 14 | Good Friday through Easter Sunrise!
Please sign up to be in prayer for at least one of the 36 hours at your home—not at church. Devotion materials will be available in the Gathering Space or on our website (parkwayucc.org). There are a great deal of helps in this booklet—even activities and discussion starters for families with children/youth. Please make a plan—which may include a walk through the Devotion booklet—so you can hit the ground running when your specific time rolls around.

Easter Sunrise Service: April 16 | 6:00am | Elm Lawn Cemetery
(Behind the Historic Sanctuary across the street)
Gathering in the darkness like the women did long, long ago, we will be literally warmed and encouraged by the “new fire.” The Day of Resurrection will dawn on us as we see the empty tomb and decide for ourselves what we’ll do next.

Easter Worship: April 16 | 9:30 Traditional & 11:00am Informal
Lilies all around, snuffed Lenten candles now ablaze again, fresh flowers being placed in the cross, stirring music in the air, eager kids everywhere you look…Come celebrate the most important day of the year! We will experience the turning and returning of Mary and a couple of the disciples at the tomb. It has been a season of deepening our Christ-like identity. Lean in toward God! [Special Easter activities for the kids during worship—Easter Egg Hunt after both services.]

We’re in need of some additional Sweet Bakers…

Helping others through food and fellowship is a very special time for all the sweet bakers. We meet once or twice a month on a Tuesday morning and bake desserts with a variety of easy recipes started with box mixes. While we bake to bring smiles to those less fortunate, we laugh, we bond, and we solve many of the world’s problems! Come join us and make a difference, not only for yourself, but for others!

Advent Workshop 12/6

PrintAdvent Workshop

Sunday, December 6 | 4:00-6:00pm | Fellowship Hall

Parkway UCC Christmas Elves are bringing our annual Advent Workshop back this year. Come join us to make crafts for the holiday season. Mingle around the different booths for all types of activities, including making special holiday ornaments, a nativity set, bird feeders, yummy cookies to decorate, and other crafts. God’s Eyes will be special craft available. Our traditional soup dinner will be held as the craft booths close. We love to see families working together. A short Vesper service provided by our confirmation class will be held at the close of the evening.

Carol Cobb and Barb Kuhlmann, Head Elves this year, are recruiting dedicated Christmas Elves to run booths. Already signed up are Ingrid Scharf and Jill Schatz. We are still recruiting more helpers: Phone lines and email are now open.

Membership Care, along with Linda Tossing, will be providing Kitchen Elves and are recruiting special super cooks to make a pot of their favorite soup to share, to bring bread or crackers, or a dessert.

What a great way to kick off the holiday season in a special way. Please join us for this yearly Parkway event. Click below to view your sign-up options.

Jesus Has Left the Building March 29

Sunday, Mar 29 | following 8:30am worship | the community

Jesus Has Left the Building3-20-25 Update:

As a part of JHLTB3, we are asking you to do some Spring Cleaning and bring donations of books, shoes, clothes, household items, sports equipment this Sunday, anytime during the week or next Sunday. Please place items in the corner of the Gathering Space by the light switches and History Tower. Thank you!

This experience is back by popular demand! Jesus has left the building in order to feed people; bless children; discover the stranger; provide healing; support and encourage those who were struggling; honor ancestors; appreciate and enjoy nature; and much more.

Join us for a brief worship service where we will sing, pray, hear scripture, share communion and be commissioned to be Christ-like…sent to put our faith into action right away!
